The Drysdale wind project is located in South West Victoria,
approximately 15km north east of Warrnambool and 3km north of Purnim.
Situated on approximately 800 hectares of farm land, the proposed
project site is over 15km from the coast and consists of 13 proposed
turbines. A Notice of Decision to grant a permit for the project was
issued by Moyne Shire in August 2007, who are the relevant authority as
the project size is under 30MW. Following an appeal in December 2007,
the project was approved by VCAT in March 2008. A wind measurement mast
was erected in January 2005 and wind data continues to be collected and
assessed.
Comprehensive technical and environmental studies of the proposed
project site have been conducted. Native Flora and Fauna Studies
supported an application to the Commonwealth Government's Department of
Environment and Heritage (DEH) under the Environmental Protection and
Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act in January, 2005. DEH decided in
February 2005 that the Drysdale Wind Farm project was not a "controlled
action" meaning that the proposed project was deemed not to have
significant impact on matters of national environmental significance
protected under the EPBC Act.
